EnginesSF was established in 1998 after a serious bout of corporate-itis. From that moment on, we’ve focused on creating the type of digital media company that defies the normal structure, and applies experience and knowledge in a focused, minimalist fashion that builds trust. Results are paramount.
EngineSF hit the ground running as the mp3 boom was poised to explode. Having recently built a fortune 500 intranet with the help of a team of management trainees, EngineSF founder and principal Eric Angella parted ways to create a design and development web company dedicated to online music.
Promoting his services to a targeted group of online music insiders, his clients quickly grew to include AudioCafe, Cool Audio, MB5 (Music Business 2005), Uplister, Scarlet Shame Records, and several musical artists. He designed and developed websites, built online communities, wrote articles, and perfected the technical art of producing streaming media of all kinds. He helped produce Digital Media conferences. He even helped his clients raise money from Fortune 500 corporate investors.
Alight and experience-hungry in the burgeoning field of online music, Eric conceived and fostered a host of music content ideas on the web for his clients.
In 2000, Eric and his partner Christy Nichols raised investment money of their own and launched groovengine.com, an online radio station featuring radio shows – called “Sound Essays” – created by the music industry’s top journalists, including writers for Rolling Stone, Mojo, Guitar Player, and major metropolitan newspapers. Groovengine hired Jas Obrecht as groovengine’s editor. Prior to groovengine, Jas Obrecht was editor-in-chief of Guitar Player Magazine for 20 years.
As music industry lawyers set about controlling the online music space and the tech boom sputtered into a spectacular bust, EngineSF realigned and branched out strategically into all areas of web design and development, broadband multimedia development, and online web promotion.
EngineSF has since driven or participated in a wide variety of projects for an eclectic base of customers, building database-driven websites, content management systems, weblogs, online promotion campaigns, ecommerce, logos, brochures, and guerilla marketing campaigns of all types.
